New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) Information

Introduction

Situated roughly eight miles east of central Manhattan in Queens, New York, La Guardia Airport serves mainly domestic flights, with additional international connections to the Pacific Rim, Latin America and Europe. La Guardia has four main terminals as well as three smaller terminals and caters to more than 20 million passengers annually, with over 25 airlines operating from the airport.

Airport parking at New York La Guardia

New York La Guardia Airport offers both long-term and short-term parking, with daily parking available in the parking garage and five parking lots. Cars can be parked in the daily spaces for up to 30 days, but at standard daily rates with no discounts. Long-term parking is available in Parking Lot 3 and in additional areas located just outside the airport, marked by ‘P’ signs. The long-term parking rates drop significantly after the first two days of any parking period. Meanwhile, the Marine Air Terminal offers metered parking and parking spaces for disabled passengers with appropriate identification can be found near the terminal entrances at all parking lots.

Getting to and from the airport

Driving to the airport from the city centre takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic congestion and your point of departure. If you are driving from Manhattan, follow Grand Central Parkway East to access the airport, or Grand Central Parkway West if you are coming from Long Island. The New York subway system travels regularly to and from La Guardia Airport, but newcomers to the city should be aware that crime is high on trains at night. Numerous regular and shuttle buses run frequently between La Guardia Airport and destinations across New York City, or alternatively, taxis and limousines are easily available from the airport, with taxis stopping directly outside all terminals.

La Guardia Airport passenger facilities and services are excellent, with the widest selection of amenities located in the Central Terminal building. ATMs can be found in all terminals and exchange counters are located in the Central Terminal as well as the US Airways and Delta terminals. All terminals feature a selection of retail outlets, eateries and bars, and duty-free shopping is offered at the Delta and Central terminals. Medical and dental services are available and comprehensive business services are provided by the Laptop Lane business centre, situated in the Central Terminal, with additional fax and internet services offered at the Business Traveler Center. Ramps, lifts and adapted toilets and telephones are on hand for disabled travellers.
