New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) information

Introduction

Serving more than 30-million passengers per year, JFK Airport is New York’s most significant transport hub and one of America’s busiest airports. Roughly 80 airlines operate out of JFK, travelling to both national and international destinations, with passengers entering or leaving through any of the nine separate terminal buildings.

Airport parking at New York - JFK

Visitors to JFK have the option of parking at either the long-term car park or the daily, short-term parking area, located at the Central Terminal Area (CTA). A colour code system is employed at JFK to indicate which parking areas are closest to each terminal, with green-coded parking connected to terminals 1, 2 and 3; blue to terminals 4E and 4W; orange to terminals 5, 6 and 7; and red to terminals 8 and 9. Alterative parking for terminals 8 and 9 is located just off the Van Wyck expressway and is marked by clear sign-posting. Parking spaces in the orange area are limited; if no parking is available here, passengers should head to the blue parking facility instead. Long-term spaces are also available at a parking lot located roughly four miles from the airport on Lefferts boulevard. Free shuttle buses provide transportation between the various parking areas and the terminals, while the Howard Beach AirTrain Station operates additional services between the long-term parking areas and the CTA, and between the separate terminal buildings. Disabled passengers have access to reserved spaces near the terminal entrance at each of the parking areas.

Getting to and from New York - JFK

JFK International Airport is located approximately 15 miles from Manhattan, just off Van Wyck expressway (678) in Queens, and it can be reached via Belt parkway (27), Grand Central parkway and Queens boulevard. If you are driving to the airport from Manhattan, follow Van Wyck expressway until you reach the airport exit, from where you take Belt parkway to exit 19. From New Jersey, the airport can be accessed by taking the NJ Turnpike to exit 14C (Holland Tunnel), from where you need to take West street south to Belt parkway. If you are arriving from Eastern Long Island, take the Belt parkway to exit 19. Taxis offer a quick and easy means of travelling between JFK and locations in and around Manhattan, with alternative options including private cars and limousines. Additionally, Airport Express, local and shuttle buses provide transportation to a wide range of destinations in and around the city. Information pertaining to ground transportation is available from the baggage reclaim areas at all terminals.
