Minneapolis St Paul International Airport (MSP) information

Introduction

Minneapolis St Paul International Airport is a bustling transport hub in the United States, providing connections to both domestic and international destinations and serving roughly 35-million passengers annually. The airport is made up of two separate terminals: the Lindbergh Terminal, which has seven concourses; and the Humphrey Terminal, which is much smaller and is sometimes referred to as Concourse H.

Airport parking at Minneapolis

Long-term and short-term parking lots are located straight across from both the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals in covered ramp facilities. Parking at the long-term area of the Humphrey Terminal is significantly cheaper than parking at the Lindbergh Terminal, and further cost reductions can be obtained by making use of the airport’s automated ‘e-parking’ system, whereby credit or debit cards can be swiped through machines to make payment. The parking lots are connected to the terminals by means of elevated, temperature-regulated walkways. Reserved parking spaces are available for disabled passengers at both terminals and valet parking is available at the Lindbergh Terminal parking lot.

Getting to and from Minneapolis

The airport can be easily accessed by car from both Minneapolis and St Paul, with journey times taking around 30 minutes from either downtown area. If you are heading to the airport from St Paul, take I-35W and exit left onto highway 62, also known as Crosstown 62. Travel east and turn south onto highway 5, from where you can take the exit to the Lindbergh Terminal. Alternatively, pass this exit and continue to the Post road exit. Take this exit and drive east to the junction of 34th avenue and Humphrey drive. Humphrey drive leads directly to Humphrey Terminal. From St Paul, take Seventh street south to highway 5. Turn onto highway 5 and follow directions as above.

An alternative transportation option is to make use of the light rail system that connects both the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals to 15 regional destinations including Minneapolis city centre and the Mall of America. The rail transit system offers free transportation between the two airport terminals. Taxis are available from the Tram Level of the Lindbergh Terminal and from the Ground Transportation Centre at the Humphrey Terminal. Metro Transit buses are available from the Transit Centre, accessible from the Lindbergh Terminal via the free tram service or the Skyway Connector.

Amenities at Minneapolis St Paul International Airport

The Northstar Crossing area, located at the Lindbergh Terminal, is the airport’s main shopping and dining centre, with over 75 retail stores and eateries offering passengers a wide range of options to choose from. A small number of restaurants and retail outlets are also located at the Humphrey Terminal. ATMs and currency exchange counters are located at various points in both terminals as well as internet services. Private self-serve centres at the Lindbergh Terminal provide workstations equipped with dataports, postage machines, fax and travel insurance services, and ATMs. Additionally, a range of business services are available at the Pierson M Grieve Conference Centre.

A Lost Property office can be found on the Mezzanine Level of the Lindbergh Terminal and fingerprint-operated storage facilities are available at both terminals. Parents travelling with infants or small children have access to a family room with baby changing and nursing amenities as well as play areas.

Information is available from booths distributed throughout the airport buildings that are manned by Travellers’ Assistance volunteers. The central Travellers’ Assistance office is located close to the entrance of Concourse D at the Lindbergh Terminal and is open from 08:00 to 20:00.
