Plymouth City Airport (PLH) information

Introduction

The gateway to Devon and Cornwall, Plymouth City Airport is located 7kms northeast of Plymouth city centre. A small yet modern terminal building, with six check-in desks and two gates, accommodates more than 125,000 passengers each year. The airport is also undergoing rapid growth – traffic was up 50 percent in 2005. Flights connect with 11 scheduled destinations in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and the Channel Islands. There are at least two daily flights to London-Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol, where travellers may then connect with international flights.

Airport parking at Plymouth

A car park adjacent to the terminal can accommodate 240 vehicles, and is scheduled to be enlarged in 2005. Daily rates are €7.50 (£5), with reduced charges applying for shorter stays. For those dropping off or collecting friends or family, the first 30 minutes parking is free of charge.

Getting to and from Plymouth

If driving from Plymouth city centre, take the A386 Tavistock Road. At the Derriford roundabout (approximately 15 minutes outside the city), leave the A386 and follow the signs for the airport. No train or bus service is available at the airport. However, Citybus and First Bus coaches stop at the Derriford roundabout, a 10-minute walk or a short taxi ride from the terminal. Authorized taxis operate from just outside the arrivals hall; the typical fare from the airport to Plymouth city centre is €11 (£7.50). Both Air Southwest and Air Wales, the two primary carriers at the airport, offer a convenient on-board taxi-ordering service on flights into Plymouth.

As yet there are no banking facilities available at the airport. A newsagent and convenience store can be found in the main lounge. Light meals and refreshments are offered at the Dash Inn Café, while stronger libations are available at a fully licensed bar.
