Geneva International Airport (GVA) Information

Introduction

Situated 5kms north of Geneva, this airport handles 8.6 million passengers per annum. More than 40 scheduled airlines, including budget carriers, plus some 100 charter airlines serve the airport. International destinations include all of Europe, plus the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America. One main terminal, containing both Swiss and French sectors, handles all passenger traffic.

Airport parking at Geneva

Car parks at the airport can accommodate 4,500 vehicles. Short-term car parks P2 (for arrivals) and P3 (for departures) have a limited number of spaces, and allow maximum parking times of 60 minutes and 30 minutes, respectively. Parking is free for the first 10 minutes, and then €1.30 for 30 minutes. Long-term car parks are P1, P51, and P20 in the French sector. Fees here are €1.30 per hour, and €16-€19 per day. Weekly parking in P51 costs €51.

Getting to and from Geneva

The airport is just off the A1A motorway. This connects with the Route de Meyrin which leads directly into Geneva city centre. An airport railway station is situated 300 metres from the terminal. Trains run to Geneva-Cornavin in the city centre (travel time, 8 minutes). There are also direct trains to many other destinations throughout Switzerland and Europe. Bus service links the airport with central Geneva, the United Nations and Lake Geneva. Stops are located at the departures level in front of the train station, and at the arrivals level next to the post office. Express shuttle buses also travel into France; Grenoble and Lyon are about 2 hours away. Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals hall, and charge about €20 for the trip into Geneva.

Financial facilities include a bank, numerous ATMs and two currency exchange bureaus. There is also a post office. The airport’s Skycom business centre has private offices equipped with telecommunications facilities, and conference rooms seating up to 70 persons. More than 50 shops offer a range of duty-free and regular merchandise including watches and jewellery, chocolates and other gourmet foods, international newspapers and books, souvenirs and gifts. Eight restaurants and 15 cafés, bistros and bars serve a variety of foods and beverages.
