Sweden Airports

Sweden is one of the largest countries in Europe and it has a diverse and dramatic landscape and a coastline which stretches for hundreds of miles along the Baltic Sea. Sweden is a land of extremes, with the bitter cold Arctic Circle up in the north and pleasant beaches in the south, where most of the population resides. However, the country is probably best known for its mountains, lakes and forests.

Sweden has an exceptional public transport system, with great roads and efficient bus and train networks, although travelling to the north of the country from the south can be an arduous journey, even in the summer. Thirty-five airports serve various points throughout the country.

Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport is the largest in Scandinavia, with an output of 20-million passengers per year. Flights go to more than 150 destinations, most of which are international including many North American cities as well as Asian and European cities. The airport has four terminals (2, 3, 4, and 5) that are linked by shuttle bus. Transport facilities to the city are very good, with three railway stations for travel to Stockholm and farther afield. Buses, taxis and limos are also widely available.

Gothenburg International Airport on the southwest coast is smaller than Arlanda yet it still handles a healthy four-million passengers a year to 30 destinations across Europe. One terminal processes both domestic and international flights. Located 15 miles east of the city, the airport can be easily reached by bus, taxi or limo.

Malmö-Sturup International Airport handles about the same amount of passengers as Gothenburg and is a cheaper alternative for reaching Copenhagen from Stockholm or elsewhere. One passenger terminal serves both domestic and international flights, with many different carriers operating services from here. Buses and taxis run to Malmö, while Copenhagen is easy to reach via the new tunnel.
