Johannesburg International Airport (JNB) Information

Introduction

This airport, the busiest in South Africa, is located 22kms northeast of Johannesburg city centre. New international (completed in 1999) and domestic (completed in 2003) terminals serve 57 airlines and 13 million passengers per year. Complimentary shuttle buses departing every 6 minutes link the terminals and the farthest car parks.

The 2005 World Airport Awards, based on a passenger survey of airport standards, named Johannesburg the second-best airport in Africa (behind its sister airport, Cape Town).

Airport parking at Johannesburg

Underground parking, and parking in the 4,000-space multi-storey parkade, costs €1 for the first hour, €1.75 for 4 hours, or €10 per day. Prices for parking in carports or shaded car parks more distant from the terminals are €0.75 for the first hour, or €3.75 per day.

Getting to and from Johannesburg

If driving from Johannesburg, take the R24 motorway; from Pretoria (42kms), the R21. Several approved taxi and shuttle bus operators provide service to Johannesburg, Pretoria and the surrounding areas. Taxi and shuttle ranks can be found outside the international arrivals area in a new public transport terminal.

Amenities at Johannesburg International Airport

Banks, ATMs and currency exchange facilities can be found in the international arrivals hall. There is also a post office, a medical clinic and a chapel. A vast duty-free shopping mall in the international terminal offers a mix of African products and artifacts, plus international goods such as sportswear, liquor, perfume, tobacco, jewellery and sweets. Twenty-two restaurants, cafés and pubs throughout the airport offer a range of dining options from fast food to African cuisine. The Premier Conference Centre in the domestic terminal has rooms for business meetings and conferences.
