Faro Airport (FAO) information

Introduction

The gateway to Portugal’s Algarve region, Faro Airport handles nearly 5 million passengers per year. The recently renovated terminal lies 4kms southwest of Faro city centre. In addition to domestic connections, regularly scheduled international flights link the airport with the UK, Germany, Spain and other European destinations.

Airport parking at Faro

Faro Airport has three car parks: P1 and P3 for short-term parking and P2 for long-term. Rates in P1 are €0.80 for 30 minutes, and a daily rate of €13.80. In P3 rates are €1.40 per hour, with a daily rate of €10.70. The weekly fee for parking in P2 is €52.40.

Getting to and from Faro

The airport is just off the EN-125 roadway, which leads eastward along the coast to Faro, Olhão, Tavira and into Spain, and westward to Portimão and Lagos. EVA buses depart from outside the terminal building for Faro and points beyond. Current timetables may be obtained at the airport’s information counter. Aerobus shuttle service is also available during the June-October high season. A taxi stand is located near the arrival concourse. The fare to Faro is €8.74; to Albufeira and Tavira, €34.59. There is a 20% surcharge for nights and weekends.

Amenities at Faro Airport

There are ATMs in both the arrivals and departures areas, plus a bank, a currency exchange booth and a post office in the arrivals hall. Shops at the airport offer a selection of Portuguese wines and foods, leather goods, electronics, sunglasses, toys and gifts, and regional handicrafts. Snack bars are located throughout the airport. Additional dining facilities are offered at two self-service restaurants, two coffee shops, and a restaurant specializing in international cuisine. Conference facilities for up to 65 persons may be booked in advance through the airport’s business office (telephone +351 (0)289 818 802). A VIP lounge in the departures area is accessible for a fee of €25.
