Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) Information

Introduction

Sometimes called the ‘New Tokyo International Airport’, Tokyo Narita International Airport is a major gateway to the islands of Japan. Terminal 1 hosts mainly European and North American carriers, while Terminal 2 serves mainly Asian airlines. Both terminals handle flights from a variety of destinations across the globe. The terminals are about a mile apart from one another, but are connected by a shuttle bus which leaves every 10 minutes.

Airport parking at Tokyo Narita

Tokyo Narita International Airport has both long-term and short-term parking available in parking buildings 1 and 2. Disabled parking is also available and is charged at a discounted rate. Parking fees are payable by all major credit cards at both car parks.

Getting to and from the airport

Trains from Tokyo Narita International Airport run to Tokyo Station every 30 minutes and the journey takes about 75 minutes. Train tickets must be reserved; reservations can be made at the NEX counter at the train terminal. Another transport option is the Keisei Skyliner Express train, which departs from the airport every 30 to 40 minutes and stops just north of Tokyo Station. Tickets for this 1 hour journey can be purchased in the Arrivals areas of both terminals. By bus, the best option is the Airport Limousine Bus, which departs from just outside the terminal buildings every 15 minutes. The drop-off point is the Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT), which is a short distance from several major Tokyo hotels. There are taxis available from the airport to the city centre, but the cost is exorbitant. By car, Tokyo Narita International Airport is 40 miles northeast of the city, located just off route 295 (Higashi Kanto Expressway East). Security checkpoints are located at all road entrances to the airport.

Amenities at Tokyo Narita International Airport

Tokyo Narita International Airport’s restaurants, bars and cafés are located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Terminal 1 and the second and fourth floors of Terminal 2. You will find a good variety of cuisines, ranging from Western to Chinese and Japanese. There are also plenty of shops spread throughout the terminal buildings, offering passengers sweets, souvenirs and sundries.

Banks, ATMs and bureaux de change are readily available at the airport as well as airport club lounges for business and first-class passengers, and frequent flyers. Fax and photocopying services are on-hand at both terminals and the business centre in Terminal 1 provides messenger and secretarial services as well as conference rooms. Tactile floors exist for the visually impaired and there are lifts and wheelchair-accessible toilets throughout the airport. Help and information desks are on-hand in the Arrivals and Departures areas of both terminals.
