More than 4 million passengers pass through the airport each year. Primary international connections are with the UK, Germany and northern Europe, Spain, France and the United States. Free shuttle service links the old and new terminals and the various car parks. The 2005 World Airport Awards ranked Venice second in the world in the category “Friendliest Airport Staff” (behind Cape Town), and second in southern Europe in “Overall Excellence” (behind Athens).Airport parking at Venice Marco Polo AirportMore than 1,300 spaces are available for cars. Short-term parking near the new terminal is available in car parks P5 (€2 per hour) and P6 (€5 per hour). Multi-storey car parks P1 and P4 are located in front of the old terminal. Rates are: €6 for up to 6 hours; €12 for 24 hours; and €75 weekly. Uncovered parking near both terminal buildings is found in car parks P2 and P8. Rates are €5 for up to 2 hours, €11 per day and €67 per week. P7 is designed for long-term parking and is located some distance from the new terminal. The daily rate is €9, weekly €54.Getting to and from Venice Marco Polo AirportFrom Venice, take the Venice-Mestre motorway and exit north onto SS-14. The airport is 7kms ahead on the right. There is scheduled bus service from the airport to the Mestre-Venice railway station (journey time, 13 minutes), and to the Piazzale Roma in Venice. Water taxis and motorboat service run between the airport docks and Venice, Murano and Lido. Traditional taxis are also available for the 12-minute trip. For high-fliers, helicopter shuttle service connects the airport to many local destinations. The trip to the Lido, for example, takes 8 minutes.Amenities at Venice Marco Polo AirportATMs are found in several locations throughout the airport. Other facilities are a bank, a bureau de change, a post office and a first-aid station, all in the arrivals area. Most of the shops and eateries are found in the departures area. In addition to duty-free merchandise, items for sale include fashions, lingerie, shoes and leather goods, jewellery, sporting goods, and gifts and souvenirs. The airport has four cafés for casual dining and snacks, plus a wine bar. The business centre has meeting rooms, conference halls and individual workstations, plus audiovisual equipment and secretarial services.
