Turin International Airport (TRN) Information

Introduction

Turin International Airport is undergoing a massive renovation and expansion in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics. The project is due for completion by late 2005. The airport is located 16kms north of the city centre and serves nearly 3 million passengers per year. International connections include the UK, Germany, France and Spain.

Airport parking at Turin International Airport

A multi-storey car park accommodating 3,000 vehicles is linked to the terminal by a 35-metre-long covered passageway. Rates are €2 per hour for the first two hours, and each additional hour is €1. The daily rate is €16, with the second through the fourth days costing €14 each; after that the daily rate is €6. A weekly fare of €54 is also offered.

Getting to and from Turin International Airport

Travelling by car to or from central Turin takes 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. The S-460 roadway leads directly into the city. The airport is situated near several major autoroutes including the A4 (Milan, 145kms) and the A5 leading to the Alpine destinations of Aosta (115kms) and Courmayeur (145kms). Trains connect the airport to Turin’s Dora railway station, departing every 30 minutes from the early morning hours until about 21:00. The journey time is 19 minutes. The airport’s railway station is reached by a 150-metre-long covered walkway off the departures level. Buses leave from just outside the arrivals hall for Turin’s downtown Porta Nuova station, making three stops en route. The one-way fare is €5, and the journey time is 40 minutes. A taxi ride into Turin takes about 30 minutes and costs €26.

The airport has two ATMs and two banks, one in the departures area and one in arrivals. The latter offers currency exchange as well. Other amenities include a chapel, a 24-hour first-aid station and a video game room. Shops at the airport sell a wide variety of items including Olympic-themed merchandise, fashions, shoes, beachwear and lingerie, designer spectacles, jewellery and watches, mobile telephones, chocolates, and gourmet foods and wines. Dining choices include the Torino 2000 restaurant; a self-service restaurant offering views of the airfield; a cafeteria; and a bar/restaurant offering wines and foods of the Piedmont region. Pizza and fast foods are available as well. A business centre is located in the departures lounge and offers telecommunications and internet services, as well as foreign currency exchange. Hours of operation are 8:30 to 18:00.
