Introduction

Catania Fontanarossa Airport is situated 5 kms southwest of Catania, on Sicily’s east coast. The new two-storey terminal building serves more than 4 million passengers per year. The airport offers extensive domestic connections within Italy as well as scheduled flights to major European cities including Amsterdam, Munich and Paris.

Airport parking at Catania

There are 1,100 long- and short-term parking spaces at the airport. Short-term parking is €1 per hour, with staff in attendance from 6:00 until 22:30. Long-term “maximum security” parking is available at rates of €6 for up to 12 hours, €10 for 24 hours and €7 per day thereafter. There are also 16 parking spaces for those with impaired mobility.

Getting to and from Catania

The airport lies just off the A19 motorway, which runs west towards Palermo and through central Sicily. To reach Catania, take the 417 roadway which leads directly into the city. The E45 motorway runs south to Syracuse, about 50 kms distant. Alibus shuttles depart every 20 minutes, from 5:00 until midnight, to and from the city. Regular bus service is also offered to other area cities and towns; current timetables can be obtained at the airport’s information booth. Taxis are available by telephone for trips into Catania and beyond.

Financial facilities consist of ATMs, a bank and a currency exchange bureau. The airport’s one shop sells souvenirs, newspapers and magazines, and tobacco. A self-service café offers regional specialties, drinks and spirits, and Sicilian pastries. The airport’s VIP lounges offer additional facilities such as internet access and fax machines.
