Montpellier Mediterranee International Airport (MPL) Information

Introduction

Formerly Montpellier Frejorgues International, the airport was renamed Montpellier Mediterranee International in 1994. More than 12 flights arrive at Montpellier every day, with connections from international airports worldwide, many of which are routed through Paris before reaching Montpellier as well as a number of direct international and domestic flights. The airport is located approximately five miles southeast of the city.

There are two short-term parking lots, P2 and P3, and one long-term parking facility at Montpellier Airport. Disabled passengers are well catered for, with more than 30 parking spaces reserved for handicapped persons who are in possession of the correct identification.

Getting to and from the airport

The airport is located just a short drive from Montpellier, near the village of Maugiou-Carnon, and is easily accessed by car. From the city centre, take the A9 freeway and then follow the markers to the airport. A shuttle service travels between the airport and the central rail station area, leaving every 30 minutes and taking between 15 and 20 minutes to make the journey. Alternatively, both buses and taxis provide transportation between the airport and Montpellier.

Telephones are widespread throughout Montpellier Airport’s single terminal, while a post box is situated straight across from the airline counters in the Departures Hall at Gate D. Banking facilities at the airport include an automated currency exchange service and an ATM. A nursery and baby changing facility is located in the basement of the Arrivals area, while first-aid services are also available. Disabled passengers are well catered for with wheelchairs, lifts and wheelchair-accessible toilets.

Numerous retail outlets and a selection of restaurants and cafés provide entertainment, refreshments and last-minute shopping opportunities. Stores include a newsagent, tobacconist, gift shop, wine store and the Espace Mediterranee, which offers an array of local products and edible goods. The airport business centre at the Air Hotel offers a range of practical facilities and services.

An information desk is centrally positioned in the airport building and offers both airport and tourist advice and information.
