London Heathrow International Airport (LHR) Information

Introduction

One of the busiest airports in the world and a major hub for Europe, Heathrow has four terminals and is always bustling. Located in West London, it receives flights from around the globe, with numerous daily flights from transatlantic destinations. The airport is well equipped with facilities for all travellers needs. A total of 90 airlines transport 63 million passengers in and out of Heathrow each year.

Airport Parking at Heathrow

Pre-booking parking at Heathrow Airport is strongly recommended, as the car parks get full very quickly - especially for the summer months. Each terminal has its own short-stay parking lot, operated by NCP in terminals 1, 2 and 3, and by APCOA in Terminal 4. A shuttle service travelling between the terminals and the long-term and business car parks is available free of charge. Valet parking is available at all four terminals. Disabled drivers can request assistance from customer service staff at the car parks, and motorbikes can park for free in designated areas at each terminal.

Getting to and from the airport

For those travelling by car, Heathrow is situated west of London and is well signposted on the M4. Exit at junction 3 for Terminal 4, and junction 4 for terminals 1, 2 and 3. Access is also possible from junction 14 off the M25.

The quickest and easiest rail access into London is the Heathrow Express; it takes 20 minutes and leaves every 15 minutes. The Heathrow rail station is a 15-minute walk from the terminals. The Piccadilly line of the London Underground stops at a station for terminals 1, 2 and 3 and another for terminal 4. Average journey time from central London is approximately 50 to 60 minutes (£4).

By bus, the Hotel Hoppa runs from each terminal to hotels near to the airport (05:30 - 23:30); tickets can be purchased from the bus desk in each terminal. London black cabs are available outside the arrivals hall of each terminal; a typical journey into Central London costs more than £40.

Amenities at London Heathrow

There are numerous bureaux de change and ATMs situated in all four terminals before and after security. Left luggage is well organised, and services such as lost property, a health centre and freight services are conveniently offered.

Each terminal offers a variety of shops selling liquor, cosmetics, souvenirs, speciality wares, British crafts and more. In fact, the airport boasts the worlds largest duty-free hall. Food and drink is provided by a large selection of buffet and counter restaurants and fast-food outlets.

Information desks are available in each terminal. Help desks are also located throughout the airport, and passengers can seek assistance by using a courtesy telephone and can also look at terminal maps.
