The airport serves more than 8 million passengers per year. Direct international flights to the Middle East, Europe and Africa account for the bulk of the traffic. The airport has two recently renovated terminals situated 3kms apart, which are linked by a free shuttle bus departing every 30 minutes. Terminal 1 is known as the Old Airport, while Terminal 2 is known as the New Airport. A third terminal is slated for completion in 2007.Airport parking at CairoNine car parks near Terminal 1 can accommodate 3,612 vehicles for both short- and long-term parking. There are also four car parks at Terminal 2 which contain 4,000 spaces for vehicles. Rates are €0.70 per hour.Getting to and from CairoIf driving from Cairo city centre, cross the 6th October Bridge and continue via Salah Salem Road which leads to Heliopolis. Be advised that Cairo traffic is notoriously congested and occasionally hair-raising. Public buses (both air-conditioned and not) and shuttle buses serve the airport. Air conditioned public buses depart from Terminal 1 for Cairo’s Tahrir Square and other locations in the city and surroundings. The fare is €0.30. Shuttle buses charge about €5 per person for the journey into town, and depart every half-hour. Shuttles also run to the pyramids area. Taxis and limousines are available as well outside the arrivals halls, operating on a flat-fee basis.Amenities at Cairo International AirportSeven banks have branches in the terminals, and there are numerous ATMs and a 24-hour currency exchange facility. Post offices located in the departures halls of both terminals are open around the clock. Most shops, both duty-free and regular, can be found on the ground floor of Terminal 1, in addition to bars and dining establishments. Major restaurants include the Stereo, with live piano music, and the Café Ritazza in Terminal 1’s new international arrivals hall. Five VIP lounges in Terminal 1 – the English, French, Italian, American and Egyptian – offer fine dining and drinks. A business centre in Terminal 1, linked by an escalator to the transit hall, provides computer and fax services.About Essential Travel airport parkingEssential Travel specialises in airport parking at all major UK airports.
