La Romana International Airport (LRM) Information

Introduction

La Romana International Airport is a tiny airport situated in the southeast corner of the Dominican Republic. The closest resort to the airport is Casa de Campo, about a 10-minute drive from the airport, while Boca Chica is a 1-hour, 45-minute drive away. Travelling around the Dominican Republic can be slow and La Romana International Airport is ideal for quick access to resorts on the eastern tip of the island. Some of the closest towns are San Rafael del Yuma, San Pedro de Macoris, El Macao and the resort of Juan Dolio.

La Romana International Airport is served by flights from the USA and charter flights from London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow in the UK. These flights also offer a limited amount seat-only tickets for independent travellers and flight time from the UK is about 9 hours, 30 minutes. Las Americas International Airport near the capital Santo Domingo is also on the southern coast, but it isn’t served by international flights from the UK.

All arrivals and departures at La Romana International Airport are dealt with by a single, modern terminal building, the design of which was inspired by old sugar mill buildings.

Getting to and from the airport

Most of the passengers arriving at La Romana are on package holidays and will normally have their coach transportation to the resorts arranged by their tour operator. It is possible to hire cars at the airport, but bear in mind that many of the roads are unpaved and if you have an accident, you may well be put in jail and not allowed to leave the country until any legal action, such as a civil lawsuit, is concluded. It is also possible to hire taxis from outside the airport.

Amenities at La Romana International Airport

The airport is very small and has few amenities, but the waiting rooms are comfortable and there are VIP lounges and a special lounge for passengers on private flights. There is also one small store selling a variety of goods.
