Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) Information

Introduction

Situated 17 miles northeast of downtown Beijing, Beijing Capital International Airport is a busy, two-terminal facility serving nearly 20 million passengers per annum to a variety of destinations including the United States and major Asian and European cities.

Getting to and from the airport

For drivers, the airport is situated on the boundary between the Chaoyang and the Shunyi districts and can be reached by the surrounding Jingshun road and by the 5th Ring road. For buses, there is an Airport-City Shuttle Bus service running twice hourly from outside the Arrivals Hall, which travels to the city via either Xidan, Gongzhufen or Zhongguancun. Most of Beijing’s major hotels are also served by the bus service. Taxis operating metered services can be found in front of the terminal; the journey to the city normally takes around 60 minute.

The airports essential amenities include several bureaux de change, a bank, a post office and an ATM. Dining and refreshments can be found at a number of cafés and restaurants; noodles and Chinese fast food are the prevalent cuisine. There are a number of shops selling duty-free goods, but by far the best place to go shopping is the Liangdian market. Situated near Gate 24 in the international waiting hall, here you will find cigarettes, alcohol, tea, Beijing food specialities, electrical goods, book, magazines and audio-visual media.

For business travellers, there is a business centre offering computer, fax machine and internet access. Elsewhere at the VIP lounges, passengers will find computer, fax and photocopying services. Disabled passengers will find the airport meets with international standards and extra help is available on request.
